Put these boots into the category of something I didn’t know I needed. When I got to Svalbard and we were preparing the snowmobiles and sleds for a long journey into an uninhabited region of the island, I was told by locals that the boots I brought would never be sufficient for the cold and snow. My response was, “but they’re Gore-Tex!”
Thankfully, I was taken to the local expedition outfitter and these were recommended without hesitation. Super lightweight, sherpa insulated, tall enough to keep your calves covered, and a drawstring to keep the snow out. On top of that, they gave the appearance that I knew what I was doing. I didn’t.
I was told to size up as that would help with warmth and pair with a simple wool sock. I did both and can confidently say, my feet were never cold and stayed dry. Definitely no concern giving these a stamp of approval.
