I’ve owned more than my fair share of insulated pants. Unfortunately, they’re either not warm enough or not durable enough. There’s plenty of options that pack in the down, but they pack it into ridiculously thin nylon. The end result being a snag in camp or a crampon rip that renders them useless.
The Compressor pant is the first I’ve found to reinforce areas of wear while still packing in enough warmth. They were actually recommended to me by a guide that spends more than 100 days in the Himalaya and Karakoram every year. For Svalbard, these did the trick. Plenty warm and capable of handling camp chores and the occasional bear watch.
